Camping day 4

July 2, 2014

Morning finds us in sunshine, though still sleeping on the floor.  This being the UP, the windows were left open all night and the house has become quite chilly.  That's right, early July and I am cold.  This southern boy just does not understand, no matter how many times +Gina Beaudry tells me to pack warm clothes.

We make our way back to Otter Lake to finish setting up camp.  We decide to set the tents on one site and use the other as our fire site and kitchen.
After we get everything organized and get some lunch we head out to Bay Furnace for a little sightseeing and history.  I was able to dip my toes in Lake Superior.  With my earlier dip in Lake Michigan and last years excursions into lake Huron, I am now 3/5 done with my Great Lakes toe dips.  That water is too cold for me.

Stone Arch
The next excursion was to Munising Falls.  A nice hike to a viewing platform which included these sandstone cliffs.  The geologist +Joshua Stewart enjoyed the hike and views.

One of the twins made it up.
After the falls we drove to an overlook of Miners Castle on the Pictured Rock National Lakeshore.  The views were spectacular.

On the way back to our home base house in Munising, we stopped at Muldoon's to pick up pasties.  A pastie is a piece of UP history.  Having tried one last year, I was not impressed and skipped the pastie this year.  However, most of the rest of the party thoroughly enjoyed their treat.

Name The People

I was asked by a co-worker to create some Revit families from CAD blocks. They are 2D plan representations of people. I asked the requester if she wanted them named any certain way because this is what I saw.

A Weekend in the VA Mountains

This past weekend we took a trip to the mountains of Virginia. It is an area we have visited before with the Boy Scout troop, but this time we went without the scouts. I have been riding consistently again for nearly a year after I bought a new to me cyclocross bike. You can read more about that here . After more than 2,800 miles on that bike since last June, it needed some more work. The headset was pretty much shot and would not be repaired in time for our planned trip to Virginia. So Gina suggested that I get a new bike. I ended up getting a Giant Revolt Advanced 2 from Giant Wake Forest . We arrived at our rental house very early Saturday morning. 1:30am in fact. We found a place to stay that was literally steps away from The Virginia Creeper Trail . Saturday was to be a day we went hiking at Grayson Highlands State Park . We met Gina's co-workers at the park just after 10:00 am and started our hike. We have camped at this park before with the Boy Scouts but have never ...
