There's a Problem With Resurrection

First of all, I am don't think I am going to spoil anything if you have not seen the show.  Just in case though, here is your warning:  POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!

I got around to watching ABC's new show, Resurrection last night.  The idea seems interesting, long dead people returning to to their loved ones, unchanged from the moments before their death.

I do have a few complaints right off the bat.  Unfortunately for my wife, we have DVR and I was able to stop the show each time one of these "problems" arose.

The kid, Jacob, "wakes up" in China wearing a baseball jersey of a local team in Missouri.  So immigration officials are called in to get the kid back to the USA and find out where he belongs.  Agents get the call on Saturday and the kid is already at the airport waiting to be picked up.  How long was he in China?  Since Thursday, Wednesday?

So, let's get a list going

  1. While at the airport, a federal agent is trying to get Jacob to talk.  So he offers up his touchscreen smartphone with some games.  Jacob chooses Donkey Kong.  This is a great choice as it would fit the time of death perfectly.  DK was released in 1981 and this kid died in 1982.  Of course the agent had to tell him how to use the touchscreen to play the game.  However, when the agent asked where the Jacob was from, he somehow knew how to find an app on his phone and write, with his finger, "Arcadia."  How did an eight year old from 1982 not know how to use a touchscreen five minutes ago, and now is able to navigate the phone and write the name of his hometown?
  2. During the show, Jacob runs off into the woods to recover an item he left there in 1982.  He gets to the hiding spot of his treasure and pulls out a G.I.Joe.  In a flashback, it was revealed that his father gave him the toy.  This particular G.I. Joe was of the larger variety from the 1960's.  Sure, maybe his father gave him a vintage toy, but it is hard for me to believe.
  3. Finally, this bothered me more than was a "problem" with the logic of the show.  Remember how the kid was found in China, wearing that baseball jersey?  Well, the show progresses through to Sunday morning and Jacob is STILL WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES!!  Buy the kid some clothes!  He's been away for 32 years!  How long had he been in the same clothes?
Anyway, I bet someone can explain all these "problems" I have with the show.

Name The People

I was asked by a co-worker to create some Revit families from CAD blocks. They are 2D plan representations of people. I asked the requester if she wanted them named any certain way because this is what I saw.

A Weekend in the VA Mountains

This past weekend we took a trip to the mountains of Virginia. It is an area we have visited before with the Boy Scout troop, but this time we went without the scouts. I have been riding consistently again for nearly a year after I bought a new to me cyclocross bike. You can read more about that here . After more than 2,800 miles on that bike since last June, it needed some more work. The headset was pretty much shot and would not be repaired in time for our planned trip to Virginia. So Gina suggested that I get a new bike. I ended up getting a Giant Revolt Advanced 2 from Giant Wake Forest . We arrived at our rental house very early Saturday morning. 1:30am in fact. We found a place to stay that was literally steps away from The Virginia Creeper Trail . Saturday was to be a day we went hiking at Grayson Highlands State Park . We met Gina's co-workers at the park just after 10:00 am and started our hike. We have camped at this park before with the Boy Scouts but have never ...

Buddhapalooza 2019

If you have been following this blog you will know that I have started cycling regularly again. In my past, I tried racing. I never did exceptionally well, but I did enjoy it. Now that I am back on a bike and getting fitter, I decided to give a race a try. I saw a notification for Buddhapalooza  and did some research. It looked like the perfect event for me to try racing again. It is set up as a fundraiser, 10 miles long (7 miles on road and 3 miles single track.) It looked like a fun, low-pressure event not so focused on winning and more on having fun. So I registered for the event and showed up to a course I have never ridden. Billed mainly as a mountain bike race, there were several other people on cross bikes like me. It was a Le Mans start, set your bike down in a given area, all the racers are fifty yards away on foot. When the race starts, you have to run to your bike and then start riding. I placed my bike close to the run start line. I think this was a mistake. By the ...
